Nigeria N17.42 billion Satellite Installation In Doubt.

Nigeria N17.42 billion Satellite Installation In Doubt.

- Nimet (Nigerian Metereological Agency) Blames Inadequate Preparation For Flood On Poor Information Technology

More reasons are emerging on why many states were hard hit by the recent flood disasters occasioned by the recent flood.
Hammered from all angles, the Nigerian Metrological Agency (NIMET) recently revealed how inadequate information technology from the Nigeria Ministry Of Science and Technology and the erected satellite constitutes problem that avoid the agency to have inadequate planning for  the recent flood. The Director General of the agency, Dr. Anthony Anuforom said the satellite assesment is poor in most cases and this made it almost impossible fro the agency to carry out adequate planning on future disaster.

Although, Anuforom said that concerned by the devastating nature of the flood his agency saw within the available technology, he took it upon himself to write letters to 15 state governors and he ensure that they were delivered, but they were not even acknowledged.
His words: “The volume of the flood we predicted is not what we later experienced and this happens as a result of poor information from the concerned authority and the satellite meant for such purposes."

He called for a national framework for climate service. This, he said, would establish an institutional relationship, and link climate data providing agencies like his with users of such data.
“Part of the problems is that there was an obvious gap. There is no formal policy connecting service providers (like NIMET) with the users of the information. The World Metrological Organisation in 2009 adopted the global framework for climate service which aims at brining science evidence-based climate service to users. There is need for us to evolve our own national framework for climate service which will aim at connecting the service providers with those who use the service. If we had a proper framework, we would be on our way to ensuring proper mitigation of climatic effect.”

This assertion by  Nimet has raised alot of questions that what is the purpose of the expended N17.42 billion Satellite by the Federal Government and many people were of the opinion that there  is nothing like satellite up there. A man who speaks on anonymity  said that he doesn't believe that there is any satellite up there that sees anywhere in the country." If there is such thing"satellite", how come they cannot monitor the activity of Boko Haram? When you visit the satellite website as they say, you will only see lists of state not every corner of the country as said when commissioning the satellite last year." The man said
