JOY TURNS SORROW AS COMMERCIAL BUS CONVEYED WELL-WISHERS COLLIDED WITH ANOTHER BUS IN AGEGE.

The joy that rented the air during one Quranic graduation ceremony around Oniwaya, Dopemu Agege was abrupted when one Mazda bus, white colour with the inscription Okene Local Government and registration number XN 350 KSF collided with another white Mazda bus with the registration number AKD 222 XC which conveyed the people who are going to the Quranic graduation venue.

According to the eye witness account, the incident happened exactly 3; 50pm on Sunday 2/12/2012 right in the front of Anwar College Oniwaya Agege. It was learnt that the first Mazda bus with only the driver inside collided with the other Mazda bus that conveyed almost 18 passengers who are going to the Quranic graduation venue.

Another eye witness who pleaded anonymity said that the former bus driver has either drunk or sleeping because he was the one ran into the bus that conveyed passengers. “I was about entering Anwar College to watch football match before I heard a noise and when I looked back, it was the collision of two commercial buses. The leg of the woman that sat in front of the bus was shattered and we quickly carried her to the hospital in front of the accident scene. The other people in the bus sustained minor injuries and they have been treated in the hospital”.

In confirming the incident, the woman who recognized as Iya Afusat was later taken to orthopedic hospital after been given the first aid treatment at The Shield Specialist Hospital whish is right in the front of the accident scene.

The windscreen of the two buses was shattered and the drive that drove the Okene bus was said to have taken to unknown hospital due to injury he sustained from the shattered windscreen.
In confirming the insinuation that the driver might have drunk or sleeping, the driver’s colleague who later came to the accident scene confirmed that the driver just returned from Okene in Kogi State this morning and what he told him before he left his place now was that he is going home to rest. This according to many people there affirmed that the driver has slept off on driving because he travelled through the night from Okene to Lagos.

One prominent person in the area said that the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) should double effort in sensitizing drivers about the dangers on drinking and sleeping while driving especially at this restive period.
