Workers Threaten Strike In Ogun. Hand Govt. 21 Days Ultimatum

The Joint Negotiating Council (JNC) of the trade union side has handed down a 21 day ultimatum to the Ogun State government over the  non-payment of  about #13.6 billion.
In a press statement after the emergency meeting of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council, Ogun State council, the union said the action became imperative in view of the alleged nonchalant attitude of the state government in this direction.
According to the union, the amount included N3.9 billion unpaid contributory pension deductions of 25 months by the last administration, unpaid bond redemption from January through March 2013.
In view of this development, the council urged the state government to immediately commence the process of repealing the state contributory pension law of 2006 and allow workers to go on old scheme.
The council also asked the government to commence the 2012 promotion exercise especially in the core civil service without further delay.
The council said it may not be able to guarantee continued industrial peace in the public and civil services of Ogun State if at the expiration of the 21 day ultimatum,  the government fails to meet its demands.
