An
18-year-old boy arrested for making ‘terror threats’ through his
Facebook posts about the recent bombings in the US city of Boston
remains in custody pending payment of USD 1 million bail.
The teen, identified as Cameron D’Ambrosio, faces up to 20 years in prison for making terror threats on the social networking website, Russia Today reported on Friday.
The boy, a senior at Methuen High School in Massachusetts, was arrested on May 2 after he posted a threat on Facebook, saying, “Ya'll want me to…kill somebody?... A Boston bombing wait till you see the [expletive] I do. …I beat every murder charge that comes across me.”
On April 15, two bomb explosions near the finish line of the Boston Marathon killed three people and injured more than 250 others.
Following Cameron’s arrest, Methuen Police Chief Joe Solomon issued a statement saying, “We took this very seriously… The threat was disturbing enough for us to act and I think our officers did the right thing.”
Solomon, however, added that Cameron did not make specific threat against any particular group or individuals including the school officials.
“I do want to make clear he did not make a specific threat against the school or any particular individuals but he did threaten to kill a bunch of people and specifically mentioned the Boston Marathon and the White House.”
The Center for Rights and Fight for the Future established a support page for the high school student earlier this week.
The supporters wrote on the page that “a kid is in prison. Away from his family. All for something he posted on Facebook.”
They noted that police found no explosives or weapons after they searched the house of the teen, demanding that he be released.
“A search of Cam's house found no explosives, weapons… He should be released to his family and that all evidence (including testimony from the police) suggested that he was not a threat to anyone,” his supporters wrote on the page.
