Dozens feared killed in another Plateau attack

Dozens feared killed in another Plateau attack

Residents of Da-Jak and Attakar in Plateau State have claimed that over 28 people including a policeman were, in the early hours of Tuesday, killed in the two communities.
The two communities are in Ganawuri District of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau.
The residents said one of the victims killed when gunmen stormed the communities was a policeman in uniform.
Confirming the attack to reporters in Jos via a telephone interview, the State Commissioner of Police, Chris Olakpe, said a policeman was affected in the incident.
“The officer was shot while on a peace mission to the area,” Mr. Olakpe said.
Mr. Olakpe identified the police officer who lost his life in the attack as Corporal Maniru Jibril.
He said the policeman was posted to the troubled zone in the wake of last week’s violence in the area. He did not give any civilian casualty figure.
No arrest has been made as a result of the incident. However, investigations are ongoing to track the perpetrators, the police chief stressed.
Also speaking about the incidents, Daniel Dem, representing Riyom Constituency at the State House of Assembly, said dozens of persons were feared killed in the recent attack.
The lawmaker who described the attack as “sad,” said both villages had been under siege by suspected Fulani militia for a week
The legislator faulted intelligence gathering by security operatives deployed to keep peace in the area saying they have not acted right.
“My people are being killed every day and yet the special task force is not doing anything about it,” he said.
